The 7 Easiest Yoga Positions For Beginners

Soo City, in Kagoshima Prefecture, is where our tea journey begins.
Nestled in a quiet mountain basin, it’s cooler than most parts of southern Japan. This unique environment—rich in mist, sunlight, and temperature shifts—makes it a perfect place to grow flavorful tea.

Why this land matters:

  • Slow-growing tea leaves = richer flavor and aroma
  • Natural environment similar to Japan’s top tea regions

"In every cup of tea, there's a moment of stillness waiting to be found."

We follow a style of farming the “Chagusaba” method, a traditional technique recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System in Japan.
Benefits

  • Enhances the tea’s flavor and aroma
  • Improves soil health through natural compost
  • Supports healthy microbes in the soil
  • Helps retain moisture and regulate temperature
  • Reduces weeds without chemicals

By working with nature—not against it—we grow healthy tea plants in a stress-free environment.

Our Matcha Collection

  • Before harvest, we gently cover our tea fields with black shade cloth for about a week.

This method, known as covered cultivation , reduces sunlight, resulting in tea leaves that are deeper in color, with less bitterness and more natural sweetness.

The tea grown this way is called Kabusecha , a premium style closely related to teas like Gyokuro and Tencha —the base for matcha.

Because too much shading can stress the plants, we observe them carefully and avoid overdoing it.
Sometimes, we even skip a harvest to let the bushes rest—because great tea comes from healthy, cared-for plants.

Our Matcha Blend

At Daruma Match Tea Atelier, we work closely with our partner farmers to grow a variety of tea cultivars.

Among them are rare types that make up less than 1% of Japan’s total tea cultivation area.

By growing multiple cultivars in balance, we’re able to create our own unique blends in-house—while also offering single origin teas made from one specific farm and cultivar.

Over 50-Year-Old Tea Trees, Grown with Care

Tea trees generally produce their best harvests for about 30 years. But if overworked or harvested too aggressively, their health declines faster.Even under normal conditions, aging trees gradually lose strength, yield less, and their flavor fades.

That’s why many farmers regularly replant new trees. At Sueyoshi Tea Atelier, we do the same—but we also continue to care for our long-standing tea trees.
Some of our trees are over 50 years old, and still thriving. Thanks to years of gentle, respectful care, they continue to produce rich, flavorful tea.
